VOICES OF CAROLINA offers three levels of choirs:
All new students will need to meet privately with the director for a voice check to assess pitch and section assignments. While this is not a competitive audition and music reading is not required, members must be able to match pitch. No preparation is necessary. Decisions regarding placement in choirs are at the directors' discretion. After registration form is received, director will contact you for a voice check time slot.
All rehearsals are held on Tuesday afternoons at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church.
1024 Rawlinson Road
Rock Hill, SC
Students of any religious background are welcome to join, however, the literature and values of the choirs will reflect a traditional Christian faith.
Parents will need to sign a legal release form and students/parents will abide by a code of conduct.
Kendra was raised in a musical family with many of her favorite memories happening around the piano. Her love for music was encouraged through singing in school choirs, ensembles and with her family singing group. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, and a Masters of Music from the University of South Carolina. While homeschooling her three daughters for 14 years, she remained active in music including founding Voices of Carolina to meet a need in the area. She is also a voice teacher and festival accompanist with the Clover HS Choraliers, and is Director of Music at Clover First Baptist Church. She and her husband, Kent, live in York, SC, and are also active with Relevant Church.
Mechelle Wong has been involved in music since a young age. At the age of sixteen, she felt a deep call from the Lord to be involved in music ministry. After graduating high school, Mechelle attended Seattle Pacific University where she received her BA in Church Music with an emphasis in choral directing and piano performance. Since graduating, Mechelle has directed and accompanied church choirs, taught piano lessons, led worship, and directed a homeschool children’s choir. She has homeschooled and graduated her two daughters for past 16 years. Currently, Mechelle enjoys sharing her love of music by teaching piano lessons, accompanying the Voices of Carolina’s High School Choir, and being one of the worship leaders at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where her family is also involved in worship ministry.
